FDA's GRAS Notice Inventory shows GRN 1284 - recombinant bovine lactoferrin made by the yeast Komagataella phaffii, notified by All G Co Holdings Pty (Australia) - closed 25 Mar 2026 with an FDA no-questions letter (fda.gov/media/191907). All G announced it about 1 Apr 2026. It is not the first precision-fermented lactoferrin (TurtleTree's GRN 1219 closed May 2025) but confirms a fast-growing animal-free route to a scarce dairy bioactive. (Source: FDA GRN 1284.)
Why it matters (money + metacrisis). Lactoferrin is one of the most valuable proteins in milk — an iron-binding bioactive used in infant formula, immune and gut-health products, and sports nutrition — but conventional supply is small and expensive because it must be extracted from large volumes of whey. Producing it by precision fermentation (here expressed in the yeast Komagataella phaffii) decouples a scarce animal-derived nutrient from dairy herds. Money angle: a high-margin ingredient with structural supply scarcity. Metacrisis lever: less land/emissions/animal-ag pressure for the same nutrition, plus a health (HKG) upside in early-life and immune formats.
What would prove it wrong. The GRN 1284 record shows a different notifier or status, FDA issues subsequent correspondence qualifying or withdrawing the no-questions position, or All G's ingredient never reaches market / the company ceases operations — any would undercut the "cleared and commercializing" reading.
