Broadcom's AI semiconductor revenue reached $16.7bn, up 221%, with a $21.7bn fourth-quarter guide — the cabinet's second vendor-side quarterly receipt for the buildout, this time with cash flow above net income (8-K exhibit, 2 Sep 2026)

Broadcom's Q3 FY2026 release, furnished as an 8-K exhibit dated 2 September 2026, reports revenue of $29.6 billion, up 86%, with AI semiconductor revenue of $16.7 billion, 'up 221% year-over-year, and 54% quarter-over-quarter.' Fourth-quarter guidance is $34.8 billion, with AI semiconductor revenue expected to 'accelerate to $21.7 billion.' Free cash flow was $13.7 billion, 46% of revenue. Caveat: the AI figure is management's category, not a reported segment, and the exhibit is furnished, not filed.

Why it matters (spine). RDKG's wager is that as intelligence gets cheap the scarce inputs move upstream — to verified data and to whoever can move atoms. The atoms in this story are accelerators and networking silicon, and this exhibit is a dated, SEC-furnished measurement of how fast they are being bought: a company-defined "AI semiconductor" line that grew 221% year over year, the exhibit's figure, and is guided to grow again next quarter. The cabinet already holds the buyers' side of the buildout (Alphabet financing from capital markets, Microsoft funding from operations) and one vendor (NVIDIA). This is the cabinet's second vendor-side quarterly financial receipt; its other supplier-side cards (micron-hiroshima-cleanroom-groundbreaking, sk-hbm-memory-shortage-2030) are capacity and forecast cards, not results — a cabinet-scoped statement, not a market one, checked by grep of content/signals/ for vendor quarterly results.

What the exhibit says. The Form 8-K, "Date of Report (Date of earliest event reported): September 2, 2026," states under Item 2.02 that "On September 2, 2026, Broadcom Inc. (the 'Company') issued a press release announcing its unaudited financial results for the third quarter ended August 2, 2026," and attaches it as Exhibit 99.1, adding that the information "shall not be treated as filed for purposes of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934." The exhibit is datelined "PALO ALTO, Calif. – September 2, 2026." Its headline bullets: "Revenue of $29.6 billion for the third quarter, up 86 percent from the prior year period"; "Cash from operations of $14.2 billion for the third quarter, less capital expenditures of $0.5 billion, resulted in $13.7 billion of free cash flow, or 46 percent of revenue"; "Fourth quarter fiscal year 2026 revenue guidance of approximately $34.8 billion, an increase of 93 percent from the prior year period." Hock Tan, President and CEO, is quoted: "Demand for our custom AI accelerators and networking continues to be very strong. Q3 AI semiconductor revenue of $16.7 billion grew 221% year-over-year, and 54% quarter-over-quarter," and "In Q4 the momentum continues, and we expect AI semiconductor revenue to accelerate to $21.7 billion, up 236% year-over-year." Amie Thuener, CFO: "Broadcom achieved record revenue, operating profit and free cash flow in Q3."

The quarter, from the exhibit's tables (GAAP, $ millions). Net revenue 29,591 (Q2 FY26: 22,187; Q3 FY25: 15,952). Segment: semiconductor solutions 20,839 (70% of revenue), infrastructure software 8,752 (30%). Operating income 15,955; net income 13,088; diluted EPS $2.68 ($3.32 non-GAAP). Cash-flow statement: net cash provided by operating activities 14,197; purchases of property, plant and equipment (532); free cash flow 13,665. Balance sheet at 2 August 2026 versus 2 November 2025: cash and cash equivalents 23,975 versus 16,178; trade accounts receivable, net 13,707 versus 7,145; inventory 4,523 versus 2,270; long-term debt 57,167 versus 61,984. The quarter's cash-flow line for receivables reads (2,859). Dividend: "$0.65 per share" payable 30 September 2026. Note as printed: the AI semiconductor figure appears in the CEO quotation and nowhere in the financial tables — Broadcom reports two segments, and "AI semiconductor" is a management category within semiconductor solutions.

Derived figures, enumerated so a missing one is detectable. Five derivations appear on this card and nowhere else, the first three rounded to whole percentages because the AI figures are themselves rounded to $0.1 billion: AI semiconductor revenue as a share of the semiconductor solutions segment, about 80% (16,700 ÷ 20,839); as a share of total revenue, about 56% (16,700 ÷ 29,591); the guided AI share of guided fourth-quarter revenue, about 62% (21,700 ÷ 34,800); the increase in trade receivables across the three fiscal quarters since 2 November 2025, $6,562 million (13,707 − 7,145); and the excess of operating cash flow over net income in the quarter, $1,109 million (14,197 − 13,088). The 70% and 30% segment shares are printed in the exhibit's own segment table, not derived. Every other figure on this card is either read directly off the exhibit or, where it belongs to another card or to this card's own choices (the NVIDIA figures in the cross-link paragraph, the ±2% tolerance in the falsifier, the count of earlier abstentions), named as such where it appears.

The cross-link that complicates the vendor story, in the direction that matters. nvidia-q2-fy2027-compute-is-revenue (26 August 2026) carries, as "a printed gap worth carrying without interpretation," net income of $59,688 million against operating cash flow of $24,077 million, with a $22,346 million receivables build in the quarter. Broadcom's exhibit shows the opposite relationship in the same season: operating cash flow above net income, and a receivables increase of $2,859 million in the quarter against $29,591 million of revenue. This card does not interpret the difference — the two companies sell different things on different terms to different customers — but it records that "compute is revenue" is not one cash-conversion pattern across vendors, and that the NVIDIA card's open question ("whether that is benign timing or something else") now has a comparator printed beside it. The buyer-side cards alphabet-q2-2026-ai-capex-exceeds-cash-flow and microsoft-fy26-capex-funded-from-operations are the other half of the same table.

What the exhibit does not contain. Coverage of this quarter circulated named customers, a named custom-chip program with a gigawatt deployment target, and shipment claims to specific model labs. None of those words appears in the 8-K or its exhibit, and none appears on this card except in this sentence to say so. The exhibit's own risk language is the honest counterweight: it names "any loss of our significant customers and fluctuations in the timing and volume of significant customer demand" and "our dependency on a limited number of suppliers."

Money angle. For BKG and the money gardens the number to carry is the guide, not the quarter: $21.7 billion of AI semiconductor revenue in a single fiscal quarter, stated by the seller, is the demand signal that datacenter construction, power and materials cards in this cabinet ultimately rest on. Metacrisis lever: the same buildout is the load the energy and water cards measure; this card supplies the purchase-side quantity for those, dated.

What would prove it wrong (falsifier). Four limbs, so a future run can close them one at a time.

  • The facts fail if the 8-K at accession 0001730168-26-000076 does not show the 2 September 2026 date, the $29.6 billion / 86% revenue figures, the $16.7 billion / 221% / 54% AI semiconductor quotation, or the $34.8 billion and $21.7 billion guides.
  • The guide fails if fourth-quarter FY2026 revenue lands outside a ±2% band around $34.8 billion — a tolerance this card chooses, since the exhibit says only "approximately" — or if AI semiconductor revenue is reported materially below $21.7 billion; either result is a card, not an embarrassment.
  • The cash-conversion observation fails if the Form 10-Q for the quarter (not opened) restates operating cash flow or receivables such that operating cash flow no longer exceeds net income, or if the next quarter shows a receivables build of the NVIDIA kind.
  • The interpretation — that this is a vendor-side receipt for a durable buildout — fails if growth decelerates sharply in the next two quarters or if the buyer-side cards' financing strain turns into cancelled or deferred orders; the CEO's "momentum continues" is a first-party assertion and is carried only as one.

Garden-code note (L41, flagged not resolved). This is a machine-layer card. TKG carries two live meanings in this repo — Toxicology per the Frontier Map, the machine layer per this beat's own wording — so, as on the nine earlier abstaining cards, TKG is left out of gardens and the machine-layer link is carried in domains. FKG follows the NVIDIA card and the two buyer-side financing cards this card extends, all three of which carry it. The founder's call on the codes stands open.

Provenance (what I actually read). Two documents, both fetched from the main thread on 4 September 2026. First, the Form 8-K itself from SEC EDGAR, sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1730168/000173016826000076/avgo-20260902.htm, signed "Date: September 2, 2026" by Amie Thuener, Chief Financial Officer. Second, the same 8-K with Exhibit 99.1 attached, as the PDF Broadcom hosts at investors.broadcom.com/static-files/9d426ddc-fa55-4fa1-8685-fc64642cbdad, headlined "Broadcom Inc. Announces Third Quarter Fiscal Year 2026 Financial Results and Quarterly Dividend." Every quotation and figure above comes from those two documents — enumerated: the Item 2.02 and "not filed" sentences from the 8-K; the dateline, the three headline bullets quoted, both Tan quotations and the Thuener quotation from the exhibit; and the income-statement, segment, cash-flow, balance-sheet and dividend figures from the exhibit's tables as listed in the quarter-as-filed paragraph. The exhibit's separate EDGAR document for Exhibit 99.1, the Form 10-Q for the quarter, and the earnings call were not opened; nothing on this card comes from them or from trade coverage.

So we should

Read this beside the NVIDIA card as the second seller-side receipt in the financing thread, and notice the one line where the two differ: Broadcom's operating cash flow ($14.2 billion) exceeded its net income ($13.1 billion) in the quarter, while NVIDIA's ran well below. Both are printed figures. The standing quarterly check for this card is the AI semiconductor number against its own $21.7 billion guide and the receivables line beside it; neither the customer names nor the chip programs that circulate in coverage appear in the exhibit, and none is carried here.
