NVIDIA reported a $96.2bn quarter — up 106% — guided to $108bn assuming zero China data-center compute, and announced platforms to mobilize over $500bn of third-party capital (8-K exhibit, 26 Aug 2026)
NVIDIA's Q2 FY2027 release, dated 26 August 2026, reports quarterly revenue of $96.2 billion, up 106% year over year, Data Center revenue of $89.0 billion, and a $108.0 billion third-quarter guide assuming no China data-center compute revenue. It also announces partnerships intended 'to mobilize over $500 billion of third-party capital' for AI infrastructure, 'subject to definitive agreements'. Backfill: this primary fell inside the previous sweep's window and was missed; it is carded on its own date.
Why it matters (spine). RDKG's moat thesis prices verified ground truth against the cost curve of intelligence, and this is the machine layer's income statement: the principal vendor of AI compute reporting "revenue for the second quarter ended July 26, 2026, of $96.2 billion, up 18% from the previous quarter and up 106% from a year ago," with Data Center at $89.0 billion, up 117% from a year ago. The CEO's framing inside the filed exhibit is the thesis-relevant sentence, quoted whole: "AI has reached its inflection point. It's doing useful work. Its tokens are productive and profitable. Now, compute is revenue." That is a first-party causal claim, not an audited finding — but the revenue line underneath it is filed, and it is the largest single measurement of AI-buildout spending the cabinet holds.
Backfill note (how this card entered the cabinet, honestly). The release is dated 26 August 2026 — inside the previous sweep's 21–28 August window. That run's scouts did not surface it, and its log's coverage-gaps section records that the machine-layer vein's searches went elsewhere. Rather than stretch this run's window or stamp a stale date fresh, the card is filed as a disclosed backfill on the primary's own date, the same convention the 28 August log established for out-of-window items worth carding. The miss is the previous run's; the date is the document's.
The quarter, as filed. From the release's own tables (GAAP, $ millions): revenue $96,221 (Q1 FY27: $81,615; Q2 FY26: $46,743), gross margin 75.0%, operating income $63,734, net income $59,688, diluted EPS $2.46 ($2.22 non-GAAP). Cash-flow statement, printed: net cash provided by operating activities $24,077; free cash flow $21,341 (the release's own reconciliation); accounts receivable increased by $22,346 in the quarter (balance $63,059 versus $38,466 at 25 January 2026); inventories increased by $5,784 (balance $31,575 versus $21,403); gains from equity securities, net, $7,771. Capital returns: "returned approximately $26.0 billion to shareholders" with "approximately $99.0 billion remaining under its share repurchase authorization." Segment: Data Center $89.0 billion; Edge Computing $7.2 billion, up 27%.
The guide, and the China sentence. "Revenue is expected to be $108.0 billion, plus or minus 2%. NVIDIA is not assuming any Data Center compute revenue from China in its outlook." Gross margins guided to "74.0%, plus or minus 50 basis points." The China exclusion connects to the cabinet's export-control thread (export-controls-chinese-efficiency-overhang, which argues controls spur domestic Chinese capability rather than halt it): the vendor now plans its largest segment assuming that market contributes nothing — consistent with controls binding on the seller whatever they do to the buyer's capabilities, and a standing quantity to re-check each quarter.
The financing platforms — the thread this card extends. Quoted whole from the highlights: "Announced strategic partnerships to establish independent compute financing platforms with Apollo, BlackRock, Blackstone, Brookfield, Goldman Sachs and KKR to mobilize over $500 billion of third-party capital for the buildout of AI infrastructure over time, subject to definitive agreements." Read against the two buyer-side cards, in the direction that complicates rather than flatters. alphabet-q2-2026-ai-capex-exceeds-cash-flow showed the best-capitalised buyer going to capital markets for its buildout; microsoft-fy26-capex-funded-from-operations showed the counterexample and warned against arguing the thesis from the flattering datapoint only. This release adds the seller organizing capital for the demand side at half-a-trillion-dollar intended scale — announced by the party whose revenue that capital would ultimately buy, and not yet under definitive agreement. The release states no purpose linkage between this and any specific customer's spending, and none is asserted here; what the thread now watches is whether the agreements execute and on what terms.
A printed gap worth carrying without interpretation. Net income of $59,688 million against operating cash flow of $24,077 million in the same quarter — the reconciliation's own largest items are the $22,346 million receivables build, the $7,771 million of equity-securities gains (non-cash in the quarter), and the $5,784 million inventory build, all printed above. Growth this fast books faster than it collects; whether that is benign timing or something else is not answerable from this document, so this card records the printed figures and asks the next filings the question.
Derived figures, enumerated so a missing one is detectable. Two derivations appear on this card, and only these: Data Center's share of revenue, 89.0 ÷ 96.2 = 92.5%; and the net-income-to-operating-cash-flow gap, 59,688 − 24,077 = $35,611 million. Every other figure — including all growth percentages — is printed in the release.
Garden-code note (L41, flagged not resolved). This is a machine-layer card. TKG carries two live meanings in this repo — Toxicology per the Frontier Map, the machine layer per this beat's own wording — so, as on the earlier abstaining cards, TKG is left out of gardens and the machine-layer link is carried in domains. FKG follows the two buyer-side financing cards this card extends, both of which carry it. The founder's call on the codes stands open.
Money angle. For the moat thesis, the number to keep is the pairing: 75% gross margin at $96 billion a quarter says the scarce input in AI is still hardware access, while the $500 billion third-party-capital intention says the constraint on further growth is now financing rather than demand — both from the same document. Metacrisis lever: this is the capital formation behind the datacenter power and water draw the cabinet tracks elsewhere (eia-aeo2026-datacenter-demand); a buildout underwritten by external capital at this scale is harder to slow than one bounded by any single company's cash flow, which raises the stakes on honest public measurement of its costs.
What would prove it wrong (falsifier). Four limbs.
- The facts fail if the 8-K exhibit at this accession does not show the revenue, margin, segment, guide or cash-flow figures quoted, or the 26 August 2026 date on its face.
- The guide fails if Q3 FY2027 revenue lands outside $108.0 billion ±2%, or if China data-center compute revenue is recognised after being assumed at zero — either outcome is a card, not an embarrassment.
- The financing intention fails if the named platforms do not proceed to definitive agreements, or if the mobilized amounts fall materially short of the stated "over $500 billion over time" — the release's own qualifiers are quoted above precisely so this limb can be tested honestly.
- The interpretation — "compute is revenue" as a durable state — fails if growth decelerates sharply, if the receivables build reverses through write-downs or materially extended terms in later filings, or if the buyer-side cards' financing strain turns into cancelled orders; the CEO's inflection-point framing is a first-party assertion and is carried here only as such.
Provenance (what I actually read). The press-release exhibit to NVIDIA's Form 8-K, fetched from the main thread on 1 September 2026 from SEC EDGAR: sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1045810/000104581026000073/q2fy27pr.htm, datelined "SANTA CLARA, Calif.—Aug. 26, 2026", headlined "NVIDIA Announces Financial Results for Second Quarter Fiscal 2027." Every quotation and figure above comes from that document — enumerated: the revenue sentence, both Huang quotations, the capital-returns sentences, the outlook sentences including the China exclusion, the Data Center and Edge Computing segment figures, the financing-platforms bullet quoted whole, and the income-statement, balance-sheet, cash-flow and reconciliation figures listed in the quarter-as-filed paragraph. The separate Form 10-Q for the quarter (accession 000104581026000075, document nvda-20260726.htm) was surfaced in search but not opened, and its filing date was not established; nothing on this card comes from it or from trade coverage. Note as printed: the release describes the quarter as the "second quarter ended July 26, 2026" — NVIDIA's fiscal 2027 — and this card uses the fiscal framing throughout.
Extend the financing thread with the seller's side of the table. The cabinet holds the buyers — Alphabet financing its buildout from capital markets, Microsoft funding from operations — and now the vendor: 75% gross margin, $21.3 billion of quarterly free cash flow, and an announced intention to organize over $500 billion of other people's capital to fund the buildout its revenue depends on. The watch item is the phrase the release itself supplies: 'subject to definitive agreements.' Track whether those agreements are executed and disclosed, and read the next two quarters' receivables lines alongside the revenue line — both are printed, and together they say how much of 'compute is revenue' has been collected in cash.
